Maim (1/30)

Today is the beginning of National Poetry Month. This year, I'm making an effort to utilize the prompts over at NaPoWriMo...the challenge for day one: write a poem that has the same first line as another poem. I chose the first line of Norman Jordan's poem Ending.

What I have written, I cannot unwrite.

I rub each word into the wound

of our love

to inflict maximum damage.

As it becomes bloody and raw,

it resembles the shape

of my

disemboweled heart.

  1. short, sweet, and so grisly it's compelling. visceral imagery: "rub each word into the wound...to inflict maximum damage"
